Training Summary
This training offers participants an introduction to the medical model of addiction, including the effects of addiction on the body and brain, as well as basic pharmacology and treatment. Designed for the Recovery Coach professional, this workshop honors the power of personal recovery and self-definition. Through a series of interactive exercises, participants are challenged to consider their own definitions, experiences, biases, and assumptions of addiction.

Learning Objectives
1. Explore, develop, and craft a personal definition of addiction
2. Become familiar with a variety of explanatory models of addiction
3. Review CDC definition, key points, and concerns of Public Health
4. Contrast Public Health and Medical Models for addressing addiction and articulate rationale/motivation for a community’s use of either one
5. Apply recovery principles to post-addiction treatment supports and community-based recovery and wellness initiatives
